The Honey List – Awesome Food Quotes

I enjoy spending massive amounts of time baking and cooking in my kitchen. Unfortunately, the decor in that room is lacking and it’s driving me crazy!

One decor trend that I’ve fallen in love with is the whole Subway Art thing. You know, where a canvas is covered with a saying and the fonts are usually different, but the quote is completely sprinkled-cupcake awesome?

I’m thinking about either making myself one of those, or buying one. Just working out which quote I would want!

What better way to choose than with a Honey List of my favorite quotes about food?!

1. George Bernard Shaw

“There is no love sincerer than the love of food” – George Bernard Shaw

2. Barbara Johnson

“A balance diet is a cookie in each hand” – Barbara Johnson

3. Inside a Fridge

“Mommy said beauty is inside; for example: a fridge”

4. Robert Cabon

“I like a cook who smiles out loud when he tastes his own work” – Robert Cabon

5. Too much butter?

“If someone says you used too much butter or cheese on something, stop talking to them. You don’t need that kind of negativity.”

6. Science Fiction Recipes

“I read recipes the same way I read science fiction. I get to the end and I think, “Well, that’s not going to happen.”

7. Cookie Monster

“Today me will live in the moment unless it’s unpleasant in which case me will eat a cookie” – Cookie Monster

8. Cupcake Smiles

“When you look at a cupcake, you’ve got to smile.”

9. Earl Hickey

“You know how I feel about tacos, It’s the only food shaped like a smile. A beef smile.” – Early Hickey

10. J.R.R. Tolkien

“If most of us valued food & cheer & song above hoarded gold it would be a merrier world.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

I love all of these quotes, but honestly, I’m really digging the Tolkien quote! It’s got me wondering where else I could find some awesome quote about food that is equally epic. Maybe I should look in my Dracula book, haha!

Do you have a favorite quote about food? What is it?

The Honey List – Jewelry Edition!

A few days ago, when I was using my stand mixer, I was watching how gracefully the blades were mixing and realized… I really want some sort of jewelry that reflects my love of baking. I know the connection is totally strange, it’s just mesmerizing to watch the blades and it relaxes me. I started thinking about what type of jewelry I would want…

I knew I could probably find something really awesome that reflected what I love.

Of course my first place to look was Why not support homemade artisans?

After looking through, drooling, and having to dry the keyboard, I realized – this would make a perfect Honey List!

So here it is, awesome, handmade jewelry for the Baker/Kitchen Mouse in your life!

And for the record, I need all of these!!

1. Whimsical Spoon and Fork Earrings from SpotLightJewelry ($19.95):

I love a cute chandelier earring, and what better way to showcase a pair than with a knife…fork…and spoon?! Love it!

2. Hand-stamped “Get Cooking” chef’s necklace from JennsHandmadeJewelry ($24.00):

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably are familiar with handstamped jewelry, and quite possibly own at least one handstamped necklace. This is another option that shows just how adorable this jewelry style is – complete with a whisk and measuring cup?! Need.

3. Mix Master earrings from Craftycruellas ($5.60):

These earrings are so stinking adorable, and feel retro. I can see myself wearing these with my red bandana mixing up some coconut cookies!

4. Personalized Baking Bracelet from InitiallyCharming ($22.00):

This charm bracelet makes me incredibly happy; you can personalize it with an initial charm, your zodiac charm and a colored stone. LOVE!

5. Sweet Baker’s Necklace with Cupcake charms from ACharmedImpression ($32.00):

Loving the classic baker feel to this necklace. The cupcake pan is adorable!

6. Whisk Dangle Earrings from PinaforeLane ($19.00):

The vintage feel of these whisk earrings make me think of my Grandma baking when I was younger. Love those memories, love these earrings!

7. “Who Ate My Cupcakes” Baker’s necklace from Shimrita ($26.99):

This necklace is probably the most original, coolest thing ever! I adore how the cupcake pan has what looks like little miniature cupcakes, complete with a bag of icing!

8. “You Little Tart” charm bracelet from SuperVixenBadGirl ($25.00):

The name of this charm bracelet makes me chuckle, and the charms are adorable. I love how the artist mixed up the types of charms to create a visually appealing and beautiful bracelet.

9. Cupcake Pan earrings from SaritasJewelryBox ($15.00):

I adore the cupcake pan charms and these earrings would look amazing with the necklace up top!

10. Handstamped Cupcake Ring from CatherineMarissa ($25.00):

Simplicity at its finest, this sweet handstamped ring could almost be worn daily. I love how adorable the ring is, yet it could pack a huge meaningful punch for any Kitchen Mouse!

I love the skill and originality of these jewelry pieces and I definitely respect the time and thoughtfulness that these artisans put into their work.

I’m working on putting a similar skill set into motion by attempting to convince the hubs that I need all of these jewelry pieces…

Which is your favorite?

The Honey List – Christmas Gifts Edition

It’s time for another weekly Honey List!

The Honey List is where I round up my personal Top 10 picks in whichever Kitchen category strikes my fancy at the moment.

Last week it was coffee mugs – who can forget that fantastic Burt Reynolds mug?!

This week, it’s Christmas gifts for the Kitchen mouse! I’m rounding up my Top 10 gifts for the person who loves to spend time in the kitchen, and I’m keeping the price point under $30. Because let’s be realistic – as much as I love Le Creuset and Kitchen-Aid stand mixers, I’m not rich enough to buy one for each of my friends (I wish!).

That being said each of these items could be a great stand alone item, or if you’re super creative, add it to a sweet little gift basket geared for your favorite baker/cook!

1. Dotty Match Potholders from Anthropologie:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

The potholder and Oven mitt are $12 each, so for around $24 you could get both, have a sweet matching set and impress whomever you bestow it upon! It’s definitely a super cute way to protect your hands from the heat.

2. Bloom Utensil Set

The Honey List - top 10 gifts under $30

As soon as I laid eyes on this set, I knew I’d be dreaming about it. My favorite part is the price ($30.99) AND the whisk – I’ve been needing a not-stainless steel whisk for-ever! I might ask the hubs for this one! Although maybe I should change my blog post to “under $31”?

3. Pizza Scooter:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

A seriously awesome pizza slicer! You’ll want to bake up homemade pizzas everyday just to play with this clever gadget. I personally love the racecar slicer, and at $19.98, the price is a steal!

4. Yolk Hero:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts for under $30

Mind = Blown on this one! It’s an egg yolk separator!! How cool is that? I didn’t even know things like this existed, but now that I do, I really need one. For $7.98, I wouldn’t even feel guilty about it, either.

5. Celtic Knot Trivet:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

I’ve been wanting a trivet for a while, and this one just turned that want into a need. Seriously beautiful work, here by ApocalypseFab! Definitely worth the $20 for a unique and beautiful handmade gift.

6. Personalized Wooden Spoons:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

I’m in love with these wooden spoons from ScissorMill on etsy. The personalization possibilities are endless and it is sure to be a gift that will be treasured for years. Priced at $26.50, these precious spoons are bound to be the best gift you’ll ever give!

7. Snack & Stack Utensils:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

You know what’s cool? Legos. What’s even cooler? Lego utensils. Priced at $17.99 the hardest decision you’ll make is whether or not to share!

8.  Magnetic Owl Cake Tester

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

Owls are probably the hottest trend in everything right now, and with this cake tester, you can show that you know what’s on target and unique. This adorable cake tester serves double duty as an original artwork magnet when not in use and is super affordable at $6. You can find this cake tester, and other beautiful options in ArtistEmilyTerrell‘s shop on etsy.

9. Metal Owl Measuring Spoons Set

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

These are the most precious measuring spoons, ever. I can foresee pulling hubby into Pier One just so I can find these, drool on them, buy them, and love them forever! They’re only priced at $14.95, so I wouldn’t feel guilty about buying them for myself!

10. Time Bomb Kitchen Timer:

The Honey List - Top 10 gifts under $30

This is definitely a cool kitchen timer! Designed to look like a literal ticking time bomb, it’s bound to bring quite a few amused comments when you gift it – and at $9.30, it won’t blow your bank account either!

There are actually way too many other options for me to choose from, and I totally could have continued the list, but really, 10 is plenty for now, haha.

This list is by no means exhaustive, so I’m curious – what is on your must-buy list this holiday season?

The Honey List – Coffee Mug Edition!

Here we are, ready for a second installment of The Honey List!

This week I wanted to  give some love to one of the hardest working little gadgets in my kitchen.

As background, I am An equal opportunity coffee enthusiast. I love me a good cup of coffee. However, lately it seems that my favorite coffee cup is looking a little… rough.

I want, nay, need a new one.

What better place to start than with the Geekery?!

1. Doctor Who: You Want Weapons?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that my top choice in a coffee mug would be inspired by Doctor Who. I love the subtle reference of this particular mug – it’s not in-your-face TARDIS, but it is Whovian enough to attract like forces!

This particular mug can be found on in The MugglyDuckling‘s shop. I adore this shop, the Geekery found within makes me warm and fuzzy…

2. Where the Wild Things Are

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love the classic book, Where the Wild Things Are.  I’ve read this book multiple times to my little boy, and I still experience that sweet sense of excitement when I smell the pages. Sort of like I feel when I smell my first cup of coffee in the morning.

Don’t act like you’ve never smelt a book.

2ndstop has this brilliant mug listed in their shop.

3.  Put a Peacock on it

I love peacocks.  The birds incorporate some of the most beautiful colors in their feathers – greens, blues, purples…. This mug does the same:

I adore that this mug represents the beauty of a peacock without actually being a peacock.  Pier1 sells this whimsical little mug.

4. Duct Tape Mug

This is the coffee cup you get for the person who has everything.

Because really, no one wakes up and says, “I need a Duct Tape coffee cup.” No. In real life you have a friend who recognizes that you truly are a redneck at heart, and your fix-it tools consist of a roll of duct tape, spit, and a prayer.

So they buy you this mug because they appreciate your mullet.

I think I need this mug.

5. Minions

I seriously love Minions. Despicable Me is definitely one of my favorite movies, ever. So of course coming across a deliciously adorable Minion mug would make my panties tingle.

Amazon sells this clever coffee cup.

6.  Lego Coffee Cup

Holy Dark Manhole, Batman, this is seriously one of The Coolest Things, Ever!! A Lego coffee cup that really Legos?!?!

Everyone should own one of these. Period.

7. Harry Potter mug

I’m really noticing a trend here. I can’t help it, though, some fandoms are just too awesome to ignore.

Harry Potter is one of them.

Take this coffee cup, for example. It features the Marauder’s Map, and when you add hot coffee, sneaky footprints appear across the cup itself.

8.  First Lines of Literature

If there’s one thing I love more than a good cup of coffee, it’s curling up with coffee and an amazing book.

A good book can take you places.

This coffee mug showcases some of the most popular and well loved first lines from the most famous books around.

9.  Lovely Mermaid

There’s probably not a mythological creature out there that has held our attention any more strongly than a mermaid.

They’ve captured our imaginations since the days of old, and there is some beautiful artwork associated with them.

That’s the reason I chose this mug (because I seriously could’ve just nabbed a Little Mermaid mug… ).

I really love the classic mermaid scene; it appeals to me in an old-school fairy tale way.

10.  The Sexy Mug

SnarkyCeramics probably has my favorite coffee cups, hands down. The shop offers mugs that reflect my feelings before my morning pot, and cups that reflect what I adore after I’ve downed my first gallon.

In this case, I need a sexy man mug.

Oh yea.

Burt Freaking Reynolds. Only thing more appealing is Ryan. But I’m trying to keep from overheating.

This mug + hot coffee = too much to handle! Love it!

This week was a bit more difficult to decide on just ten mugs. There are so many more varied, adorable, snarky, and just awesome coffee mugs out there. Which one is your favorite?

The Honey List

I’ve decided that I’m going to start a list series on this blog that focuses on all the fun, adorable, quirky, drool-worthy non-food items that are available for me to daydream over. There are so many amazing kitchen gadgets, utensils, accessories, and the like available that I couldn’t possibly own all of them… yet.

Think of it as a year round Christmas list of sorts 🙂

I would like to do a weekly list that focuses on what I may be obsessing over at the moment.

And this week, it’s aprons.

Aprons are possibly one of my most favorite kitchen/home accessories, and I certainly don’t have enough. You can find aprons everywhere, along with some amazing tutorials online if you want to make your own.

The right apron can make you feel like you are about to bake on top of the world; like you can accomplish anything within the kitchen!

They can also offer an amazing silhouette 🙂

This list starts with my absolute favorite apron, hands down, ever –

1. Dalek Apron

A Dalek apron! How much fun would it be to put on this gem, and run throughout your kitchen, shouting Allons-y or Geronimo while baking up something yummy?! This beauty is available on through PandorasProductions.

By revealing my Doctor Who geekery, it’s only natural that my next favorite apron would be this one:

2. Superhero in the kitchen:

Seriously. I need this apron for the days when I have more to do than there are hours in the day available! Superwoman, Batgirl, and Wonder Woman?! Yes, please! This apron is also available as a custom order by Alexenia on

3. Harry Potter apron:

Continuing my geekery even further, next up is an awesome Harry Potter themed apron! This apron actually comes with a tutorial, so if you’re feeling magically crafty you can sew yourself (and me?) one of these beauties! Darla over at Bakingdom was kind enough to post a pictorial and the steps on how she created this awesome apron.

4. Strawberries on top:

Probably the hottest trend right now, in, well, everything, has to be retro-styled items. I can’t think of anything sexier than a 1940s,retro-themed strawberry apron! This apron is available at Stitch Thru Time and is made in the USA.

5. Bridal Lace Rockabilly apron:

This next apron is one that I would naughtily wear everywhere. It’s so precious, lacy, sexy, and just too perfect to stay hidden in the kitchen. Seriously. Bambinoamore offers this sexy, makes-cookies-better apron in her etsy shop. There’s just something about that lace …

6. Frilly Apron:

Sometimes a girl wants to enjoy something girly, and frills are the ticket to that! This next apron is available as a tutorial, so once again, the sewer in you can indulge and craft something super sweet! This is a Spotlight Inspiration Room project that only takes 10 steps!

7. Teal Floral Garden Apron:

Teal seems to be an incredibly popular color on the internet lately, and this apron embodies that color with style! I adore the pockets and light ruffling. The best part? It’s available at World Market, one of my favorite stores!

8. Dotty Match Apron:

Frills. Polka dots. Teal. Pockets. What more could you wish for?! Available at Anthropologie, this apron is definitely on my “hint-hint-hubby” list!

9. Monogrammed Initial Apron:

Probably the most Southern thing you can do is monogram something, anything, then throw on some pearls. This apron makes my Southern heart skip a beat! SomethingYouAprons offers a great selection on some stunning aprons. Of course I had to keep the teal going 😉

10. ACU Army Wife Digital Camo Apron:

We are a retired military family, so you had to expect this, right? I. Am. In. LOVE. With this apron! FirtyandFunAprons over on has this apron available; it is adorable, along with her other apron selections (how could you choose just one?!).

Thank you for reading through my first installment of The Honey List. Check back next week, where I will have another fun list! To be honest, I’m sitting here already contemplating a second 10 Best Aprons list. It was so difficult to narrow down for this first list! Do you have a favorite apron?
